Today I had to make a difficult decision to say no at the last minute to an event I had been looking forward to. But I just knew that I had to. My body was speaking to me and clearly telling me that today was not the day. That it needed to rest, recover, stay cool and not travel. Whilst I wrestled with my old pattern of hating letting people I care about down, my wiser self took over and helped me to make a conscious choice.
In order to truly know what our boundaries are, we need to be able to listen to our bodies on a deep level. Our systems are always giving us vital information and it doesn’t always fit in with our arrangements and timelines.
Dignity begins with how we connect to our own bodies and treat ourselves with respect. When we listen to our needs and honour our boundaries, we can better recognise the worth in others. So it’s a win -win in the end.
I love these two quotes as they are such a good reminder of the intimate relationship I seek to have with my body:
“Your body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in.”
B.K.S. Iyengar
“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.”
—Jim Rohn
