Saying yes to life is a courageous, humble, rejuvenating daily decision. And it’s not always an easy one to make. We get caught up in our thoughts, roles and duties and before we know it we’ve fallen into automatic pilot mode once again and we’re forgetting to see the beauty and juicy wonder of it all!
Busyness is such a distractor and complacency crushes our vitality. We owe it to ourselves to remain awake and aware of the countless simple blessings surrounding us.
So how do we consciously tap into the joy that’s available to us whilst also cracking on with the daily grind?
Here are a 5 ideas for connecting with joy:
Create a simple morning ritual which allows you to connect with your body and heart before the day begins. I personally rise early and jog in nature. After this I write a poem. This process helps me to start the day from a place of self-connection and gratitude.
Take the time to show your appreciation for your loved ones. Tell someone in your life what you admire/love and/or respect about them. It costs nothing and is usually a great boost for you and the receiver.
Allow yourself some time to reflect and perceive the world through your senses. Take mindful moments and notice what you see, hear, smell, taste, sense and feel. Our senses are the gateway to pleasure. Opening our senses takes the energy away from the monkey mind and creates space and relaxation.
Offer yourself some loving touch. I cannot emphasise this one enough.Indulge in some self-pleasure of a sensual, sexual or soothing nature. Non-goal oriented self-touch works miracles with the nervous system. It sends the message “I am worthy of receiving my own love” to your body.
Give or receive a Tantra massage. Don’t think I need to say any more on this one!
